Bridgeton, Cumberland County
Bridgeton is the Cumberland County seat, built along the tidal Cohansey River near the Delaware Bay and bordered by Fairfield, Hopewell, and Upper Deerfield townships. Routes 49 and 77 carry most traffic, with County Route 552 also crossing the city. Much of the housing dates to its manufacturing years after the Civil War, when glass works, sewing factories, and machine shops filled the city. The historic core is dominated by large Victorians and gingerbread-trimmed doubles, and the city's roughly 7,300 housing units also include houses built on the former Tumbling Dam Park grounds by Sunset Lake.
The Bridgeton Historic District covers about a quarter of the city and more than 2,000 properties, the largest such district in any New Jersey municipality. Many are Victorians and working-class doubles built from the 1880s to the 1920s. Houses that age often need roofs, wiring, and plumbing work that buyers' inspectors flag. We buy them as they stand.
In August 1934, about seven inches of rain burst the earthen dams at Sunset Lake and Mary Elmer Lake, sending water down the Cohansey and destroying every bridge between the east and west sides of town. Homes near the river and City Park lakes can still raise flood-zone and insurance questions for financed buyers. A cash sale skips that lender review.
The city's gingerbread doubles were built as working-class housing, and many still hold two households. Selling one with tenants in place, or with one side vacant and in rough shape, narrows the field of retail buyers. We buy doubles occupied or empty and handle the tenant situation after closing.

Questions from Bridgeton sellers
Yes. We buy homes in the historic district as-is, so you do not have to schedule repairs or restoration work before selling. Any work after closing is our responsibility.
No. Parts of Bridgeton have been in an Urban Enterprise Zone since 1983, which mainly affects sales tax at eligible businesses. It does not stop us from making a cash offer on a house.
In New Jersey, an inherited house is sold through the estate, so the executor or court-appointed administrator signs the sale. We talk with each heir separately and privately, so no one has to negotiate as a group, and we'll walk you through getting an administrator appointed if that hasn't happened yet.
Thirty days is typical, and clean files can move faster. If you need more time, we'll write the date you want into the contract.
Yes. We're a New Jersey company based in Toms River, and we buy in all 21 counties, including Cumberland County. We are BBB accredited with an A+ rating, listed under our affiliate Gembrook Properties.
