Fanwood, Union County
Fanwood is a 1.34-square-mile borough in western Union County, surrounded on almost every side by Scotch Plains, with Plainfield to the southwest. It split from Fanwood Township, today's Scotch Plains, in 1895, and grew up around the Fanwood train station built in 1874. Route 28, called South Avenue locally, runs through town, Martine Avenue connects to Route 22, and the Robinsons Branch of the Rahway River flows through toward the reservoir. The borough had about 2,800 housing units in 2020.
The 52-acre Fanwood Park Historic District along North Avenue and North Martine Avenue was listed on the National Register in 2004, with 57 contributing buildings, including the station. Fanwood Park was laid out starting in 1874 with curving streets. Older houses there can need work that buyers hesitate over. We buy historic-district homes for cash in their current condition.
Fanwood station on the Raritan Valley Line offers one-seat rush-hour rides to New York Penn Station, with transfers at Newark Penn at other times, and the 113 bus runs to the Port Authority. Commuter buyers usually want a house ready to move into. If yours needs updates, we pay cash so you don't have to renovate before you sell.
Fanwood has been a borough since 1895, and the Urner/Gibbs House, a Georgian Revival home, was built in 1894 as a wedding gift. Older, long-held houses can come with dated systems and a lifetime of belongings. We buy Fanwood houses as-is, including those that need a full clean-out, and you choose the closing date.

In New Jersey, an inherited house is sold through the estate, so the executor or court-appointed administrator signs the sale. We talk with each heir separately and privately, so no one has to negotiate as a group, and we'll walk you through getting an administrator appointed if that hasn't happened yet.
Thirty days is typical, and clean files can move faster. If you need more time, we'll write the date you want into the contract.
