West Cape May, Cape May County
West Cape May is a borough of about 1.2 square miles bordered by Cape May City and Lower Township. Once known as Eldredge, it was split off from Lower Township in 1884 and is one of the four municipalities on Cape Island. Farming shaped the town, which calls itself the Lima Bean Capital of the World and holds a Lima Bean Festival each Columbus Day weekend in Wilbraham Park. About 1,000 people lived there in 2020, and the 2010 census counted about 1,040 housing units.
West Cape May's historic core was added to the National Register in 1976 along with parts of Cape May City. The Whilldin-Miller House dates to about 1715. Houses that old often need structural, roof, or wiring work that a buyer's lender will flag. We buy older West Cape May homes as they are and handle the repairs ourselves.
During Sandy in 2012, West Cape May recorded 9.53 inches of rain, the most of any place in New Jersey. Flooding here can come from heavy rain as well as tides, and water stains, damp crawl spaces, or old leaks show up in inspections. We make an as-is offer on homes with past water problems.
Buyers and mail often treat West Cape May as part of Cape May City, but it's a separate borough with its own tax bill and local offices. Permits, property records, and any open items are handled by the borough, not the city next door. We check the right municipality's records so you don't have to sort it out.

Questions from West Cape May sellers
No. We buy older homes in their current condition, so you don't need to make repairs or bring anything up to date before closing.
Check your property tax bill; it will name the municipality that taxes the house. We buy in both West Cape May and Cape May City.
In New Jersey, an inherited house is sold through the estate, so the executor or court-appointed administrator signs the sale. We talk with each heir separately and privately, so no one has to negotiate as a group, and we'll walk you through getting an administrator appointed if that hasn't happened yet.
Thirty days is typical, and clean files can move faster. If you need more time, we'll write the date you want into the contract.
